This is our first selling advice post, when we are out sourcing new inventory no matter if it's a retailer that has contacted us to take some of their old stock off their hands, yard sales, or thrift stores, we always find old blank media. VHS tapes, BetaMax cassettes, mini VHS tapes used in old camcorders, audio cassette tapes etc.. We always scoop these items up. It's just one of those things most sellers will turn their noses up at.
Who buys this old media and why? People from other countries do. We sell a lot of our blank media to Russia where apparently the VCR and cassette recorders are still very much in use! There are also a small group of people here in the USA that for what ever reason still refuse to make the switch from old audio and video to newer higher quality media.
The trick to selling these forms of media is to purchase the new still sealed items, and then collect them until you get a nice bulk lot to list on Ebay. The picture here is of some BetaMax blank cassettes I put together to make this point. This is a small lot size which I don't recommend but at the time it was the largest Beta tape lot I could come up with and I really wanted to demonstrate how well they do still. We bought the Sony tapes from a retailers warehouse I paid a nickel a piece for them. If I remember correctly originally there were 43 total from that buy. The Maxell tape,
we happened to find in a yard sale, yesterday, for free. So total spent for this lot is 15 cents. Normally, I would put them in lots of 10. We are pricing them to start at $5.00.
They will sell well, make sure that you use Ebay's new global shipping feature when you create your listing. This option comes at no extra cost to the seller. Simply ship to the US address provided by Ebay and the rest is done for you. We group these into lots as it is much cheaper for buyer in foreign countries when it comes to shipping cost.
This is just one of many things you can find a really good supply of to turn into some good cash and for cheap!
